Meral Alma goes her own way. Even in painting, she does not make common cause with whatever art movement is currently in vogue\u2014photography, for example, performance, film, or action art. Impartial and curious, she opens windows onto the world…<\/p>\n

Dr. Christiane Hoffmans (art historian and cultural journalist)<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1634756829720{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Meral Alma holds a master\u2019s degree<\/strong> from the Faculty of Philosophy <\/strong>at Heinrich Heine University, where she is currently completing her dissertation<\/strong>.\u00a0She studied Fine Arts at D\u00fcsseldorf Art Academy between 2010 and 2018.\u00a0The academy awarded her its distinguished F\u00f6rderpreis scholarship<\/strong> in 2014 and 2015. In 2017, Meral Alma was appointed a master\u2019s student under Prof. Siegfried Anzinger<\/strong>. She graduated in 2018. She is the first female artist ever to do so.<\/strong> The lecture hall and painting are dedicated to the memory of Professor Dr. Selma Meyer, who in 1922 was the second woman ever to be habilitated at a German medical faculty and appointed professor. In 1939, Meyer was forced to flee to New York via London. After the Konrad Henkel lecture hall, adorned with paintings by the D\u00fcsseldorf painter and former (D\u00fcsseldorf Art Academy) painting professor Ulrich Erben (b. 1940), the new Selma Meyer lecture hall is the D\u00fcsseldorf university\u2019s second ever to be furnished with a specially-commissioned painting.[\/vc_column_text][mk_button dimension=”outline” url=”https:\/\/youtu.be\/rG6XXAslaJ0?t=421″ target=”_blank” fullwidth=”true” outline_skin=”custom” outline_active_color=”#dd3333″ outline_hover_color=”#ffffff”]Warum Meral Alma? The four other most recent recipients include Tony Cragg in 2017, Jacques Tilly in 2019, Andreas Gursky in 2023 and S\u00f6nke Wortmann in 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n
